From war-torn Libya to riot-hit London – Scot
Young Research has been playing its part in
helping people get their lives back to normal. SYR, through its loyalty distributors, has donated free
products to the Middle Eastern country as it starts to rebuild
following six months of turmoil, and closer to home |
is stepping in to help a
Hackney shopkeeper
whose store was wrecked
and looted in last month’s
riots.
The Libya link-up came
through loyalty customer
John Tupper from Power
Hygiene & Safety Products
Limited, who has
distributed Scot Young
products for over a
decade. His father, under
Power Cleaning Products
Limited, also distributed
SYR products.
John told SYR XPress:
“By a chance meeting in
London with a representative
of a charity working in
Libya we were very honoured
to donate essential
medical and hygiene supplies
to the city of Misrata.
“During the siege, the
city saw intense fighting
and came under daily assaults
and shelling.
“The medical situation |
|
 was appalling with little or
no medical supplies and
infection spreading due to
a lack of basic hygiene
products. The conditions
were unimaginable and
one correspondent likened
Misrata to Stalingrad.”
Power Hygiene, in conjunction
with SYR and a
chemical company, managed
to get a shipment via
Malta to the city on the first
vessel to arrive.

arranged for a donation of
mops, buckets and cloths.
Power Hygiene, which is
based in Rochford, Essex,
supplied the shipping and
technical support.
Enough products were
delivered to sanitise a hospital
and assist in the reduction
of cross infection.
“I am very proud to be
associated with SYR and
their contribution, and the
chemical company concerned,”
said John Tupper.
“All products were supplied
free and, until today,
only the shipping agent
knew the source. “
Rioters
Siva Kandiah had run his
convenience store in
Hackney for 11 years but
was left watching helplessly
as rioters wrecked
his shop. However the determined
dad-of-two was
soon pictured in the press
posing alongside his trusty
Lady mopping combo –
known as the Ladybug –
as he proudly got ready to
reopen his Clarence Road
store. |

It inspired John Cook,
himself a Londoner, to
team up with loyalty
distributor Les Baker at
Parsley In Time, based in
Woolwich. They have
secured a package of
cleaning items including a
window cleaning kit for Les
to take along to the store.
“The riots were quite an |
|
emotional thing and we
wanted to help out,” said
Les, a new customer for
SYR.
John Cook told SYR
XPress: “It has been really
rewarding for us as a company
to work with our loyalty
distributors in this way
and to be able to offer help |
|
to those whose lives have
been so badly disrupted.
“It’s good to think we are
playing a small part in helping
people get back on their
feet. SYR prides itself on its
service, and on building relationships,
and this has
been something we are
more than happy to do.” |
